アーティストR E M Aによる初のアートブック『地上病の女 THE WOMAN WITH TERRESTRIAL MALADY "LEM" & OTHERS』は、2025年の大阪・関西万博で展示され大きな話題を呼んだ大型彫刻作品《The Woman with Terrestrial Malady “LEM”（地上病の女「レム」）》を中心に、R E M Aの創作とその軌跡を辿る１冊。
本書には、国立台北芸術大学で大学院芸術研究科の教授・ディレクターを務め、同大学美術館・関渡美術館（Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts）の館長である黄建宏（Huang Chien-Hung）による特別な書き下ろしテキストが日本語・中国語・英語の３言語で収録され、R E M Aの作品が持つ精神性と美学を深く掘り下げている。

R E M Aは初期より、化粧や衣装といった身体の装飾的要素を制作に取り込み、演出された「自己像」を通して、女性性のあり方についての問いを浮かび上がらせてきた。近年では、そうしたイメージはより抽象的なかたちへと変容し、線によるドローイングや焼き付けといった物理的な行為によって、素材の中に痕跡として刻み込まれていく。そうして現れるモチーフは、偶像でありながらもどこか原始的で、見る者を時間や言語を越えた感覚領域へと誘っていく。

"The Woman with Terrestrial Malady “LEM” & Others" is the first art book by the artist R E M A. Centered on the large-scale sculptural work "The Woman with Terrestrial Malady 'LEM'"—a highlight of the Osaka–Kansai Expo 2025 that drew significant attention—the book traces the artist’s practice and the development of her visual language.
The publication includes an original essay by Huang Chien-Hung, professor and director of the Graduate Institute of Transdisciplinary Art at the Taipei National University of the Arts and director of the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts. Presented in Japanese, Chinese, and English, his text offers a multifaceted reading of the worldview and aesthetic sensibility embedded in R E M A’s work.

Since the early stages of her practice, R E M A has incorporated decorative elements of the body—such as makeup and costume—into the construction of performed self-images that question the frameworks of femininity. In recent years, these images have shifted toward more abstract forms, emerging through physical acts such as line-based drawing and burning, which inscribe traces directly into the material. The resulting motifs, simultaneously iconic and primordial, invite viewers into a perceptual realm that transcends time and language.

Engaging directly with the core of "The Woman with Terrestrial Malady 'LEM'," this book serves as the first comprehensive volume to illuminate the trajectory and evolving direction of R E M A’s artistic practice.
